Room rates, occupancy prop Indian Hotels

Mumbai, Oct. 26:

Healthy improvement in average room rates and occupancy have led Indian Hotels Company, operators of Taj group of hotels to register a net profit growth of 15 per cent at Rs 53 crore (Rs 46 crore) for the second quarter ended September 30, 2007.

Total income rose 25 per cent at Rs 366.6 crore (Rs 293.2 crore).

Steady growth in food and beverage business has also contributed to the overall performance, said Managing Director, Mr Raymond N. Bickson.

On the outlook for the next two quarters, Mr Ajoy Misra, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing said, “As we have entered the high season, the period looks good and with the kind of forward bookings we have received it will be a buoyant season.”

The second quarter is considered to be a comparatively lean season in the hospitality and related industries.
