Chamber seeks mandatory ethanol blending

Our Bureau

Madurai, Oct. 26 Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industries has made an appeal for mandatory blending of ethanol with petrol.

The Chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, said import of petroleum products draw a major portion of the foreign exchange. With the increase in prices of crude oil, more foreign exchange may get drained.

To avert the situation, like in Brazil, a 10 per cent blending of ethanol with petrol must be implemented and made mandatory.
