Employment Government - Foreign Relations ‘Finnish firms to create 10,000 more jobs in India’ Our Bureau Chennai, Oct. 27 The Finnish companies that are present here have so far generated over 20,000 job opportunities and at least 10,000 more will be created once the proposed investments from newer companies and expansion plans of the existing companies materialise, said Dr Paavo Vayrnen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland. Finnish investments in India have increased in recent years. To date, more than 70 Finnish companies have made investments and another 100 companies have chosen to be present in Indian markets by exporting through local agents, he pointed out. The Minister, accompanied by a business delegation from Finland, addressed an interactive session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here. “It is the right time to strengthen Indo-Finnish business partnership, as there is a favourable economic and political alignment, a dynamic momentum in bilateral trade, and positive investor relations between the two countries,” he said. Talking about Finland’s strengths, Dr Vayrnen said that Finland is a success story in high tech machinery, clean technologies, energy and information communication technology industry. Indian markets too, offer interesting business potential for Finnish products and services in various sectors. Finnair operationsDr Vayrnen said the relative distance between Finland and India has become shorter with Finnair, Finland’s national carrier opening a daily route to Delhi and serving Mumbai five times a week. Shortly, the carrier will open a route to Bangalore or Chennai – or both. Mr Asko Numminen, Ambassador of Finland to India, said the bilateral trade between India and Finland is excellent, as both the countries have taken a similar stand on several global issues for sustainable development.
