Tea Good demand for CTC teas at N. Indian auctions Our Bureau Kolkata, Oct. 28 Last week, the CTC teas at the North Indian auction centres of Kolkata, Siliguri and Guwahati witnessed good demand at firm to occasionally dearer levels, following continued strong buying from domestic segments and packeteers, according to tea auctioneers J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd. Orthodox varieties had a firm market with fannings often appreciating in value. CIS countries and West Asia continued to be the mainstay with the major blenders and local dealers operating on fannings. Darjeeling teas sold at barely steady rates. Whole-leaf grades saw support from the major blenders while brokens and fannings met with local as well as export interest. Crop prospectsAfter a subdued start in the first half of October, leaf intakes began to improve after Durga Puja. Global trendsIn Colombo, Sri Lankan teas continued to meet with strong demand and levels appreciated, with good inquiry from CIS countries, Far East, Japan and West Asia. Kenyan teas at Mombasa met with good general demand at irregular rates. Good support was evident from the UK, Egypt, Pakistan and the CIS countries. More Stories on : Tea
