Corpn Bank details HR model

Recruits range from experts to Plus 2 candidates

Mangalore, Oct. 28 Right from engaging the services of experts in various fields for top-level management development to recruiting 10+2 candidates for front-end services makeup the HR model of Corporation Bank in a nutshell.

Mr B. Sambamurthy, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, told a section of the media, through videoconferencing from New Delhi, that the bank has chalked out a HR model at the counter level in terms of people and at the top level in terms of strategy.

TOP MANAGEMENT

In this regard, the bank has engaged the services of experts at the top level in the areas of HR, IT and Treasury.

With regard to HR development for top management, the bank has engaged the services of one of the former Managing Directors of State Bank of India. “He is working as an executive coach for the last five months. We have identified about 20 executives to develop a line of leadership,” he said.

To cope up with the growth in the IT sector, the bank is getting the help of a professor from Indian Institute of Science. Stating that the professor is helping the IT team of the bank, Mr Sambamurthy said: “He literally plays the role of a Chief Technology Officer.”

Similarly, the bank has an expert in the area of Treasury — who was a Chief General Manager of a leading bank, which has integrated Treasuries of various subsidiaries — to assist that department.

“They will be able to provide a kind of direction in their respective areas,” Mr Sambamurthy said.

COUNTER LEVEL

At the front-end level, the bank has decided to recruit 10+2 candidates for clerical cadre. The main intention is to provide better customer service.

Giving details of thismodel, he said the bank has decided to recruit around 200 candidates with 10+2 qualification for clerical cadre. The process is in the final stage and within the next one or two months, thefresh recruits will join the bank.

Stating that the bank has a very powerful transaction engine by way of CBS, he said this has taken out the work of complex accounting jobs. “We like these candidates to concentrate more on customer empathy, customer service and more customer kind of intimacy. If the experiment is successful we may repeat this to recruit 10+2 candidates next year also,” he said.

The bank is also recruiting probationary and specialist officers, he added.
