Chennai, Oct 29

The Tamil Nadu Government is likely to approve a proposal from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to set up an information communication technology academy (ICTACT) in the State, according to Dr C. Chandramouli, Secretary, Information Technology.

ICTACT will develop and maintain ICT industry related curriculum and train faculty from engineering and arts and science colleges. Sector specific subjects such as automotive engineering, service-oriented architecture, digital manufacturing and network integration would also be part of the curriculum, said Mr Subu D. Subramanian, Chairman, ICT Forum, CII – Southern Region.

Modelled on a private-public partnership, the academy would be instituted as a separate company with a board of directors comprising representatives from the government, ICT companies and education institutions and have a full-time chief executive officer. Mr Subramanian said the project would require an initial investment of about Rs 20 crore in space, setting up laboratories.
