Airlines Marketing - Strategy
Ashwini Phadnis New Delhi, Oct. 30 Get ready to not only have a more comfortable domestic flight but also fly to more destinations in the region and globally with Jet Airways. The airline has started a programme where it would discard one row of seats in the business and economy class to provide more space to its domestic passenger. The decision is likely to see 6 to 12 seats being discarded in each Boeing 737 aircraft as the airline has six seats in each row in the economy class and four seats in each row in the business class. A senior airline official told Business Line that the roll out of the aircraft was expected to begin soon and the entire domestic fleet upgrade would be completed in a phased manner by November this year. “The idea is to provide more comfort to the passenger. The exact number of seats that would be taken out through this programme would be hard to immediately collate as the seating on the Boeing aircraft varies through the fleet. With the latest move, Jet Airways would be right at the top, matching what competition has on offer,” the official said. India-BangladeshThe airline is also working on operating direct flights between India with Bangladesh from both Delhi and Kolkata. “The flight from Delhi is likely to be popular with the diplomatic community, people seeking medical treatment, and others. The two flights will be announced soon,” an airline official said. The launch of the service would make Jet Airways the only Indian private sector airline to operate flights to Bangladesh. Flight to ChinaJet Airways hopes to soon sort out the slots issue that is preventing it from launching flights to China and onwards to the US. “The Chinese side has given us a 2 a.m. slot. This does not suit us and we will be looking to exchange this at a global slot exchange meeting scheduled to be held soon. This is normal in the industry and we do not foresee any problem in launching the India-Shanghai-San Francisco flight early next year,” the official said.
