Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 31 The Centre has approved a Rs 21.09-crore project of the Kerala Government that aims at achieving self-sufficiency in milk production.

This follows discussions the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Mr C. Divakaran, had with the officials concerned in Delhi.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 4.62 crore as advance for taking up preliminary works on the project.

The advance includes Rs 2 crore towards the Rs 14-crore project submitted for the Malabar region and Rs 1.69 crore each for Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram regions towards their project size of Rs 3 crore each, according to an official statement from the Minister’s office.

These apart, the Centre has also sanctioned Rs 24 lakh out of Rs 1.44 crore sought for implementing a programme to deter debt-ridden farmers from suicide.

The Minister is also scheduled to hold discussions to find a solution to the LPG shortage in the State.
