Subscriber base boosts Bharti Airtel net 73%

New Delhi, Oct 31 Riding on a record addition of new subscribers, Bharti Airtel Ltd has maintained its growth momentum in the second quarter ended September 30, with a 73 per cent increase in net profits to Rs 1,614 crore compared to Rs 934 crore in the corresponding period last year. The company’s subscriber base grew 78 per cent to cross the five-crore mark during this period. Airtel has expanded its coverage to 2.9 lakh towns and villages by the end of September.

Though its average revenue per user has declined 16 per cent from Rs 438 per month to Rs 366, usage has improved from 451 minutes per user per month to 469 minutes. The company improved its market share in the cellular segment to 23.4 per cent as on September 30, 2007, up from 21.4 per cent last year. Airtel’s share price on Wednesday went up 0.69 per cent to Rs 1,006 per unit on BSE.
