Zak Trade Fairs eyeing buys

Our Bureau

Chennai, Nov 1

Zak Trade Fairs and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd plans to acquire small trade fair and show organisers (in India and overseas) in the near future. According to company officials, the nature of such acquisitions would be more like a partnership where Zak may buy about 75 per cent of the company’s stake and allow it to execute its events independently.

Wherever financial and manpower constraints would arise, Zak would pitch in, officials said. Zak currently has a tie-up with German trade fair organiser Messe Dusseldorf and is negotiating a similar tie-up with Nurnberg Messe.

It plans to increase the number of fairs and shows conducted globally with new themes in future. For 2007-08, it has lined up 57 fairs (Indian and international) that include new themes such as glass technology, doors and windows, facades and roofing and wood machinery information.

The company launched its maiden trade fair on office technology at the Chennai Trade Centre focusing on aspects such as office space, design, technology, equipment and supplies. Organised in association with the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, the four-day long fair will see participation from about 65 companies representing sectors such as office automation, furniture, office security and stationery. National demand for office technology is growing at about 9 per cent annually, while that in Chennai is growing at close to 20 per cent, Zak officials said. The organised market for office space in India is estimated at about Rs 600 crore. Zak expects to make this fair a yearly event with dedicated international pavilions (European, American and Chinese) in future. It also plans to organise this fair in other parts of the globe starting with Singapore in April.
