HUSCO International opens facility in Pune

Pune, Nov 1 HUSCO International, manufacturers of hydraulic and electro hydraulic controls for construction, industrial and agricultural equipment, today inaugurated its first research and development and manufacturing facility in Pune. The facility is located at Talegaon industrial area.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Agustin A Ramirez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, HUSCO International, said the Pune facility is spread over 21 acres of land and has been divided into three phases of development. The phase I was completed in June with two lines of business catering to the industrial products. The first phase has been constructed over a 7,000 sq m area, including 2,000 sq m of office and R&D, 5,000 sq m for manufacturing and product testing.

Investments

The investment is around $10 million. He said currently it has a production capacity of manufacturing 120 valves per day, catering to the industrial segment. Its customers in this segment include JCB, Caterpillar, John Deers, Tata (Telcon) etc. This capacity would be doubled by the end of the next calendar year, he said.

The facility would be catering to the domestic market demands. The third and fourth line of business would begin its operations by the end of next year and would cater to the agricultural and automotive segments.

Expansion

Asked about further expansion, he said the second and third phase development would happen depending on the demand and pointed out that it would be extension of the manufacturing facility as also an engineering lab for machine and product testing. Mr Agustin said the future programmes would be to expand India manufacturing and engineering presence, further modernisation of its facility and commercialise the INCOVA technology, patented technology of HUSCO.

He said it would also be expanding its China facility by doubling its capacity. Currently, the China facility has a manufacturing capacity spread over 30,000 sq ft and this would be expanded to 60,000 sq ft. The China operation began in 2002 and has manufacturing and global sourcing. He said it is currently sourcing to the tune of $20 million from China and it was targeting $10 million from India.

HUSCO International was founded in 1985 as a result of a management buyout by Mr Agustin Ramirez Jr and is headquartered in Waukesha, Wisconsin, US. The company, which had a turnover of $20 million with sales in the US, is now a $250 million company with four manufacturing facilities, Whitewater, the US, Shanghai, Runcorn, the UK and Pune.
