Alliances & Joint Ventures Marketing - Strategy Tatas in pact with Fiat group chief’s co Meera Mohanty New Delhi, Nov 2 The Tatas and Fiat Group Chairman are cushioning their association with a partnership in designer leather and home accessories. The Fiat Chairman, Mr Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, told Business Line at an event organised in Rome recently, that under the agreement two outlets for Montezemolo’s high-end designer furniture range, Poltrona Frau will be opening soon. “We will also be making high-end leather car furnishings in association with the Tata group,” he added. The showrooms at New Delhi and Mumbai will showcase the range comprising exclusive furniture made by acclaimed international designers to stylish Indians. The Italian firm run under Charme Investments, headed by Mr Montezemolo’s son, Mr Matteo di Montezemelo, hopes the real estate boom and the propensity for the Indian rich to spend on luxury brands will help it find a market for its exclusive pieces. Poltrona Frau is nearly a hundred-year-old leather furniture name and an Italian furniture heirloom reputed for endurance and exclusivity value. Using natural horse hair, cotton support, jute weaving for finishing the furniture is upholstered in unique leather, the key element of the designer brand. Poltrona Frau is found in the homes of the design-conscious across Europe, at the world’s elite theatres and even the assembly hall of the European Parliament. It’s also to be found in Ferraris, Maseratis, BMWs and Mercedeses. It’s in this area that the joint venture is expected to evolve. Tata International is among one of the largest exporters of high quality leather products, with a range that includes personal articles and travel accessories.
