Hyderabad, Nov. 2

Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (AP Transco) is making necessary arrangements to ensure seven hour power supply to the farm sector during the ensuing rabi season.

Addressing the AP Transco employs here, the CMD of AP Transco, reiterated that the bumper harvest in the State during the kharif and rabi cropping seasons in 2006-2007 was a proof of power utilities’ ability to provide necessary power supply and ensure that the standing crop received adequate water.

According to a statement, Ms Chatterjee said that so far Rs 2,015 crore was invested in strengthening the transmission and distribution during the year 2006-2007 and efforts are on to further strengthen the T&D lines during the current fiscal.

“We are planning to invest Rs 4,500 crore during XI Plan for construction of 94 extra High Tension substations and 6275 km of transmission lines. Apart from this, about Rs. 5,884 crore will be spent for strengthening the distribution systems,” the CMD said.

For improving efficiencies, AP Transco is implementing new technologies for operational and managerial efficiencies. It is the first transmission utility in the country to have implemented Enterprise Resource Planning package. The ERP package is seen as a crucial technology tool to regulate the financial and material management process.
