Madurai track doubling work

Madurai, Nov. 1 The Madurai-Dindigul track doubling work will be completed by the end of March, according to Mr R.Velu, Union Minister of State for Railways. The gauge conversion work is expected to ease the congestion in the traffic in the route, he said, speaking to presspersons here. The doubling of the line up to Tuticorin is being viewed as non-viable by the Planning Commission. However, as the 272-km Villupuram-Madurai-Tuticorin section is the lifeline of the southern districts, the matter would be pursued by the MPs from the State. The Planning Commission has suggested seeking additional funds from the State Government for the project, he said. - Our Bureau
