New Delhi, Nov. 5 Punj Lloyd Group on Monday announced it has bagged a contract worth $450 million (around Rs 1,770 crore) for engineering, procurement and construction work at a new mega aromatics plant in Singapore.

The turnkey contract was awarded to Sembawang Engineers and Constructors Pte Ltd (Sembawang E&C), a wholly owned subsidiary of the firm by Jurong Aromatics Corporation Pte Ltd (JAC), the company said in a release. JAC had recently announced plans to develop a $2-billion complex on Jurong Island that would produce energy and aromatics products to regional end-users as well as to global downstream producers and traders in the textile and plastics industries.

Under the terms of the contract, Sembawang E&C would be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work of all the ancillary facilities, including the receiving and exporting jetties, power and steam co-generation plant. The work on the complex, which would start next year, is slated to be completed in 2011.

“Being selected for this project by an international consortium like JAC is testament to our expertise and capabilities in delivering world-class EPC work on sophisticated industrial plants and infrastructure projects,” Sembawang E&C President and CEO, Mr Alwyn Bowden, said in the release.

With this, the order backlog for the Punj Lloyd Group on a consolidated basis has gone up to Rs 16,622 crore. This is the total value of unexecuted orders as of September 30 and new orders received till date, the release said.
