Visakhapatnam, Nov. 5 Team work and paradigm shifts are two key elements for the success of individuals, organisations and corporates and they have to be consciously cultivated and pursued, said Dr Akun Sabharwal, Superintendent of Police, Vizag Rural.

He was addressing the students of the AQJ College for PG Studies at MVP Colony here at a guest lecture programme organised by The Hindu-Business Line Club.

Citing the example of a flock of geese which fly in a V-formation, he said that studies had proved that such team work improved their flying efficiency by 71 per cent or so.

“Further, whenever the leader goose at the head of the formation gets tired, another goose takes its place and there is thus shared leadership and a sense of accomplishment of a common goal,” he explained to the students.

The geese motivate each other by quacking and the less accomplished ones are taken care of in the formation. “Human beings would do well to emulate the geese. However, team work becomes possible only when the common goals are clearly laid down, the path is clear and each member is convinced of the value of team work,” he said.

He explained to the students the importance of paradigm shifts in any organisation or corporate and the danger of getting stuck in fixed grooves.

He exhorted the students to think out of the box and to search for innovative solutions to problems faced in the corporate world as well as society.Later he interacted with the students and answered their queries on a number of topics.

Mr T.V. Suresh, Regional General Manager of The Hindu (Visakhapatnam), and Ms R. Vijaya, Director of the college, participated in the programme.
