Hero Ultra test driving hybrid 3-wheeler range

Hero Ultra, part of the diversified Rs 12,000-crore Hero Cycles Ltd, on Monday announced the launch of a range of electric powered two-wheeler bikes here and hinted at test driving dual-fuel, hybrid three-wheeler range.

A joint venture between the Hero Exports, an affiliate of Hero Cycles Ltd, and the UK-based Ultra Motor Company, Hero Ultra sees this as the beginning of roll out of electric bikes to cater to a different generation of users, including women and children.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Hero Exports, Mr Gaurav Munjal, said that the company has focused on an innovative marketing drive different from sale of other bikes to drive home the message of environmental friendly nature of these bikes.

“As we plan to roll out more models, we expect to set up 170 outlets across the country by March 2008,” he said.

The Chairman of Ultra Motor Company, Mr Ian Woodcock, told Business Line that “they were currently test driving three-wheeler range in Taiwan and India and have the technology to power four-wheelers too.

“However, the roll out of four-wheelers would depend on the market potential and demand.”
