Traditional fishermen engaged in fishing near Thrissur. Kerala’s fisheries sector is set to get a boost as the Central Government intends to pump in Rs 3,000 crore over the next five years with a focus on reviving the fortunes of the workers in this unorganised sector. Over the last 50 years, only Rs 324 crore was spent on this sector, which contributed a major share to the State’s overall revenue, according to the State Fisheries Department.
