Vinayak Mangalore, Nov. 5 The Karkala-based Bola Surendra Kamath & Sons – one of the biggest cashew manufacturers and exporters from Karnataka – is now targeting the domestic market with its value-added cashew product ‘RU Nutz’. The firm, which is targeting the health-conscious customers in the domestic retail market, wants to cover the Indian market by July. Dry roastedMr Rahul Kamath, Partner of Bola Surendra Kamath & Sons, told Business Line that the newly launched value-added product is a dry roasted one. Nuts are roasted without using oils and any type of preservatives. Asked about the reason for venturing into this segment, he said people now are conscious about their health. To cater to the needs of this segment, ‘RU Nutz’ is launched as a health food. It is completely dry roasted and available in different flavours just like any other snacks. Launched in Bangalore and Mangalore markets, the brand is available in tomato, chat and honey roasted flavours. Expansion“We want to enter other south Indian markets such as Chennai and Hyderabad by January or February. By next June or July we want to have our presence in north Indian markets with this brand,” he said, adding that the brand is present in most of the major retail outlets in Bangalore. The product was launched five days ago in the Bangalore market, and it is receiving good response from the customers. To a query on the likely business from this value-added product, Mr Kamath said the target is to reach Rs 5 crore business in the segment of dry roasted nuts during the first year. There are also export queries from Singapore and Dubai for this product, he said. Bola Surendra Kamath & Sons, which has a cashew processing facility at Karkala in Udupi district, has capacity to process 33 tonnes of raw cashew a day. Mr Kamath said his company was one of the biggest processors of cashew in Karnataka. The firm is exporting its products to over 35 countries.
