DoT may look into tariff cartel among operators

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov. 6 Department of Telecom is likely to examine allegations against large GSM companies of forming a cartel in fixing tariffs. Consumer groups have urged DoT to look into instances where operators including Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have increased tariffs. For instance, both companies recently increased SMS rates in Delhi by 20 per cent from Re 1 to Rs 1.20. The two operators also increased pre-paid STD tariff to Rs 2.65 per minute.
