The Hindu Friday November Fest from Nov 10

Chennai, Nov 6 The third edition of The Hindu Friday Review November Fest will begin on November 10 with a recital by the Pakistani father–son duo Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and Rustam Fateh Ali Khan in the ‘Classical Raaga’ category.

This is the first time the duo is performing in India, according to Mr V. Kalidas, Vice-President, Advertisement, The Hindu, at a press conference.

The nine-day fest aims to satisfy orthodox and contemporary tastes in music with performances including Hindustani Classical and modern world music.

Performances include a blend of padam and piano by vocalist Sikkil Gurucharan and western pianist/ composer Anil Srinivasan, ‘Ghazal Bandi’ by Mandolin Shrinivas and popular singer Hariharan.

Performance by the Delhi-based band ‘Mrigya’ that combines rock, Latin, folk, funk, pop, jazz and Hindustani Classical music, fusion concert by percussionist Trilok Gurtu, the US-based guitarist Prasanna, Ghatam exponent Vikku Vinayakram and Kanjira player Selvaganesh. Traditional Hindustani Classical music will be rendered by Rajan and Sajan Misra, Pandits from the Benares Gharana.

A cross over band from Korea called The Forest would also perform at the fest with support from the InKo Centre and the Korea Foundation, an affiliate of the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea.

All performances would happen at the Music Academy from 7.15 pm onwards. Tickets priced between Rs 100 and Rs 2,500 (season tickets), are available on www.hindu.com/novemberfest and at Landmark outlets (Nungambakkam, Spencer Plaza and Citi Centre).
