Industrial Policy Industry & Economy - Industry Associations States - Tamil Nadu CII hails Tamil Nadu’s industrial policy Our Bureau Coimbatore, Nov. 6 The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Coimbatore Zone has said the Government should give special attention to ‘efficient allocation of industrial land use’ especially on the outskirts of urban areas to reduce the pressure on urban infrastructure. In a statement issued here, Mr K. Thangaraj, Chairman, CII, Coimbatore Zone, said the new industrial policy announced by the Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, laid greater stress on agriculture and on increasing the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector in the State. The CII is committed to work towards ‘socially inclusive economic growth’ and the focus on agri-business in the new policy was the right step towards it. He said the new policy emphasised the creation of physical infrastructure and the development of sector specific industrial parks was in tune with CII’s recommendations. Welcoming the proposal to create a land bank of 10,000 acres for promoting industrial parks throughout the State, he wanted special attention to be paid to efficient allocation of industrial land use especially on the outskirts of large urban areas to reduce the load on urban infrastructure. While welcoming the proposal to establish industrial corridors of excellence on Chennai-Manali-Ennore, Chengalpattu-Sriperumpudur-Ranipet and Coimbatore-Salem stretches, he said the Government should work towards achieving southern synergies and consider extending the corridor to Hosur and Bangalore for optimal benefit. He wanted work on expansion of the Coimbatore airport to be taken up on an urgent basis in view of the expected ‘exponential growth’ in the next two years.
