Prathap Reddy to write a book on making of Apollo

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Nov. 7

Dr Prathap Chandra Reddy, the Chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group, who built the first major corporate healthcare solutions company in the country, is planning to pen his thoughts soon on the genesis and journey of Apollo Hospitals into a healthcare major.

“I’m going to relate on what I envisage, what I’ve learnt in the process of creating healthcare facilities and bridging the gap between the demand for quality healthcare and lack of facilities,” Dr Prathap Reddy told Business Line.

Starting off with a hospital in Chennai in 1983 and in Hyderabad in 1988, the group has emerged as a major network of hospitals in India and abroad. Besides setting up a chain of pharmacies, it also started a healthcare services company Apollo Health Street, providing business process outsourcing and information technology solutions.

Pratap C Reddy is a recognised trend-setter in the private sector medicare in the country. Early this year, the Apollo Hospitals also announced the first Health City in Asia, offering integrated healthcare and wellness solutions at its Hyderabad facility. The biggest hurdle, Dr Reddy says, is time. “I wish I could sit down and write the book. But every other day I’m on the flight. But I will do it,” he says.
