Dairy & Dairy Products States - Kerala Milk to cost more in Kerala Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 9 Milk sold by the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) will cost Re 1 more per litre from Monday. This decision was taken at a meeting between the Kerala Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Mr C. Divakaran, and milk producers today. The State Cabinet at its meeting this morning had authorised the Minister to hold discussions with milk producers and take an appropriate decision on increasing the price of milk. The Chief Minister, Mr. V.S. Achuthanandan, told newspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the Government had decided to take over the liability of the cooperative banks had incurred on account of writing off of loans taken by farmers who later committed suicide.
The Chief Minister said that the Cabinet had decided to form an engineering wing in the Local Administration Department. Employees will be redeployed to this wing, which will be headed by a chief engineer. He said that steps would be taken to curb the use of groundwater by soft drink companies in the State. The Chief Minister said that the Government would go ahead with the proposal to construct a new dam at Mullaperiyar.
