Mixed trend at Kochi tea auction

Exporters, local blenders active


Exporters were selective on medium orthodox grades and fair export enquiry was evident on good high grown varieties.

Kochi Nov. 9 Mixed trends were evident at the Kochi tea auction which had 9,56,000 kg of dust tea on offer. While CTC dust varieties eased by Re 1-Rs 2, prices of orthodox mediums and high grown varieties were dearer.

Exporters and local blenders were active in the market. Participation from the domestic market operators was moderate.

Best CTC varieties commanded Rs 63-73, medium CTC was at Rs 51-59 and below medium quoted Rs 31-38. High grown BOPD varieties were at Rs 90-107, medium BOPD ranged at Rs 40-45, and secondaries quoted Rs 30-35.

Leaf auction

Prices of high grown orthodox leaf varieties remained steady at the auction which had 3,08,000 kg of leaf tea on offer. Prices of most leaf teas eased by Re 1-2. Medium broken varieties eased by Re 1-Rs 2, whole leaf grades were steady, high priced CTC and plain CTC varieties eased by Re 1-Rs 2.

Exporters were selective on medium orthodox grades and fair export enquiry was evident on good high grown varieties. CTC varieties were absorbed by blenders and inter-State buyers.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 85-97, medium orthodox quoted Rs 41-68 and plain orthodox fetched Rs 38-40. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 48-55 and medium CTC leaf quoted Rs 42-47.

Top prices

In the dust segment, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 107, followed by Parkside BOPS at Rs 91, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 84 and Pasuparai FD at Rs 82. In the leaf section, Sutton TGFOP topped at Rs 126, followed by Sutton GFOP at Rs 120, Chamraj FOP at Rs 117 and Chamraj OP at Rs 117.
