Container ships stuck in Don river

Any reference to Russia’s Don river will remind about Mikhail Sholokov’s Nobel Prize winning novel, Quiet Flows The Don, the spectacular epic of Russian revolution and honest and intimate drama of two lovers lost in the strong tide of history, set within the sylvan hills of the Don river valley. The river recently hit the headlines, for a different reason though. More than 50 containerships are stuck in the shallow water of the river, as stro ng easterly winds are blamed for falling water levels in the country’s fourth largest river. While some feel that it is a temporary problem, the others, not so hopeful, point out that the river is becoming shallower every year.
