TN chambers hail industrial policy

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Nov 11 Trade and industry bodies here have welcomed the new industrial policy for 2007-08 announced by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has hailed the policy as laying stress on the overall industrial development throughout the State.

Particularly, the chamber has commended the decision to take steps to amend laws to enable automatic conversion of dry lands from agriculture to industrial use.

It also welcomed the scheme for setting up of industrial corridors of excellence in Madurai-Tuticorin and Coimbatore-Salem corridors.

However, it has emphasised the need to come out with an exclusive policy for the small-scale sector.

Mr Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tamil Nadu State Council, said the thrust on agri-business is the right step towards achieving inclusive growth.
