Delta introducing Boeing 777 on daily flight to Mumbai

Mr Gregory W. Kennedy, Vice-President of Airport Customer Service - Worldport, Delta Air Lines, with Ms Smita Premkumar, General Manager of Global Product Development, at a press conference in Mumbai on Monday.

Mumbai, Nov 12 US carrier Delta Airlines will introduce Boeing 777-200LR aircraft on its daily non-stop Mumbai-JFK flight in April next year.

The airline operates only business and coach classes and will provide new horizontal flat seats in the BusinessElite cabin and added cargo capabilities for shippers and freight forwarders.

Six more B777-200LR are on order for Delta to serve its long haul non-stop routes. Along with flat seats, the airlines will offer a six-foot three inch flexible bed, privacy screen and 12 video games at every seat along with other services.

After an extensive survey, the airlines have decided not to offer first-class seats in India, as their second-class seats are good enough to compete with the first class seats of Indian airlines, according to Mr Greg Kennedy, Vice-President, Airport Customer Service - Atlanta Worldport.

SEEKS jt venture partner

Commenting on the competitive scenario in the Indian aviation industry, Mr Kennedy said, “We welcome competition but our competence is that we are the first to serve non-stop flight destinations and have an excellent connectivity over New York and Atlanta.”

The airline is looking for a joint venture with an Indian aviation player and he said, “If and when a merger will happen, we will be the acquirers, not the acquirees.”

Partners with Habitat

As a part of its India programme, the $17 billion company has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build homes in Karjat with a donation of $100,000. The houses will range from 240-450 sq ft and will be built in association with a community partner.
