Reliance ADAG plans TV broadcasting biz foray

R. Ravikumar

Chennai, Nov. 12 The Reliance ADAG group is planning a foray into the television broadcasting business.

The group has hired Mr Ashutosh to be the division’s Chief Operating Officer. Mr Ashutosh was formerly with the Sahara group and was the person behind the launch of Sahara Filmy channel.

According to him, the group has decided to get into the TV broadcasting business in a big way. Refusing to comment on how many channels the company proposes to launch and when, Mr Ashutosh said though it has decided to launch channels in genres including movie and music, both in Hindi and English, “nothing is finalised yet, as there are a lot of nitty-gritty to be worked out.”

The name? “All our entertainment businesses have the word ‘Big’ in their names,” points out Mr Ashutosh.

When asked if any news channel was being planned, he said, “It would be too premature to comment on that right away.”

The Anil Dirubhai Ambani Group has ventured into the FM radio business through its Big FM; film production and distribution business through Adlabs; Internet gaming portal through Zapak; film music distribution rights through Big Music and Home Entertainment; and movie rental and online downloading segment through BigFlicks.
