India in World Skills Competition

Bangalore, Nov.12

Five Indian participants representing leading industrial organisations will participate in the 39th World Skill Competition being held in Shizouka in Japan from November 14 to 21. This will be first time India will be participating in the competition. The five most promising technicians from Tata Motors, Pune, MICO Bosh, Bangalore and Gee Dee Technical Training Institute, Coimbatore will represent the country at the competition, considered the Olympics for Skills. Though t he competition tests participants on 40 skill sets against demanding international standards, Indian representatives will be taking part in only five skills categories in its first appearance at the competition. The Indian participants have had training for the past six months with the CII Institute of Quality for improving their soft skills. India became a member this year of the World Skills International, a non-profit international membership organisation, which aims to raise the status and standards of vocal skills and training worldwide. —
