Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Nov. 12

Tea offering dipped to less than the 5-lakh kg mark at the weekly auction held here on Friday, with leaf grades accounting for 1.71 lakh kg and the balance 3.22 lakh kg of dust.

The well-made larger Nilgiris Orthodox leaf witnessed fair demand. The whole leaf grades ruled steady to occasionally dearer level. Internal demand was limited, CIS exporters lent fair support.

There was export demand for the medium/plainer bolder grades of orthodox dust. Medium brokens were quoting dearer by Re 1, plainer sorts remained barely steady and the remaining lower grades witnessed withdrawals.

CTC leaf limited

Only limited quantity of CTC leaf grades were on offer and these sold around last levels. Few exporters and internal buyers operated.

Popular high priced CTC dust ruled firm to dearer by a rupee, while good mediums remained firm by up to Rs 2. Plainer sorts with better leaf appearance quoted steady, others were irregular.

The best CTC teas ranged between Rs 45 and Rs 51, while the medium Orthodox dust between Rs 31 and Rs 44. High quality CTC dust touched a high of Rs 66 a kg.
