Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Nov. 13 The 15th edition of International Children’s Film Festival will begin here on Children’s Day on Wednesday.

The Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI) has lined up a total of 115 films, including 45 animation films. Of these, about 40 films would vie for the coveted Golden Elephant that carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh.

The week-long film extravaganza is expected to attract top stars from the film industry. The list included Aamir Khan, who would be present at the valedictory on November 20.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Ms Nafisa Ali Sodhi, Chairperson of CFSI, said over 300 entries were received from about 40 countries.

Of the 11 Indian films selected for the Asian Panorama section, two are Telugu. About 25 films would be screened in the non-competitive section of Children’s World and 20 films in the special screenings.

The jury

A jury headed by short-filmmaker Mike Pandey will judge the films in the international competition.

While the jury for Asian Panorama will be chaired by Ms Tsvetomira Niikolova (Bulgaria), the children’s jury would comprise Ms Bhavya Pandit (singer) Master Nischal Narayana (a child prodigy in mathematics) and Master T. Saikumar (child artiste).

Marking the festival, the CFSI will organise workshops on animation, Web design and video gaming for children.

With a view to helping the visually-impaired children, the society would screen ‘audio described’ films, presenting the stories in a format that they could relate to and understand. A Chinese delegation will attend the festival to understand the intricacies in organising the event of international standing.

The inaugural function, which will be held at the sprawling open theatre Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam, will be attended by the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr Pryaranjan Dashmunsi,.
