Trade & Labour Unions
Our Bureau Pune, Nov. 13 Fresh round of talks started on Tuesday between the management of Bajaj Auto Ltd and its trade union at the Akurdi premises here. The management has made an offer that if the workers should decide to leave, their offsprings would be offered jobs at the new Chakan plant II, where the Bajaj Renault car project is coming up. The other option includes a voluntary retirement scheme. Akurdi plantThe third option is to maintain status quo and the workers continue to draw their salaries till their retirement. However, Mr Dilip Pawar, leader of the Vishwa Kalyan Sanghtana — the trade union, has stated that the union would prefer to have talks on Akurdi plant going into production rather than talk about the Chakan plant, which would be coming up much later. It may be recalled that though BAL has around 2,700 workers, only 1,650 workers are being directly affected by the ‘stay at home and get your wages’ directive since 278 are working with Bajaj dealers and the others are in the component manufacture, tool room etc. The workers have been reporting to the Akurdi premises since November 7. The plant has stopped manufacturing two wheelers at Akurdi since September 2007 citing revenue losses arising out of the tax structure followed by the State Government and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Workers allowed entry into Bajaj’s Akurdi plant Bajaj firm on shutting vehicle production at Akurdi plant Akurdi plant not shut down, says Bajaj Auto Bajaj offers VRS, 2 other options to Akurdi workers More Stories on : Trade & Labour Unions | Two/Three Wheelers | Bajaj Auto Ltd
