Convention to showcase wide range of teas


The convention will have an exhibition showcasing value-added teas and a tea tasting session to present an array of Indian teas on offer.

Tea buyers from the UK, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, Kenya and others are likely to participate in the India International Tea Convention 2007 (IITC), which will be held in Guwahati from November 22.

The three-day convention is being organised jointly by the Tea Board, Consultative Committee of Plantation Associations (CCPA), the apex body of all tea producers, and various tea merchant associations with the support of the Commerce Ministry and the Assam Government.

One-stop shop

IITC-2007, which will showcase India as one-stop shop for a wide range of quality teas with district regional characteristics, is to offer an opportunity for global interaction among tea producers, exporters, blenders, distributors, packaging companies, equipment manufacturers, suppliers and trade associations.

The convention will have two parallel events in addition to business sessions. There will be an exhibition showcasing value-added teas, tea machinery and packaging machinery, and a tea tasting session to present an array of Indian teas on offer.

The business sessions will be devoted to topics like key markets for Indian tea, growth of retailing in India, emerging consumer trends in India and opportunities for tea, recent trends in marketing in India: brands and loose, global sourcing of tea, Assam tea, and Indian tea panorama discussing exports.
