Reliance Energy gets 2 coal blocks

New Delhi, Nov. 15

Reliance Energy Ltd has been allocated two coal blocks in Orissa, the company informed the stock exchange. An official statement issued here said that Reliance Energy had been jointly allocated captive coal blocks of Rampia and dip side of Rampia in Orissa. "The quantum of allocation would enable Reliance Energy to set up pit-head based over 1,000 MW power generation capacity. In this regard, the company has received communication from the Ministry of Coal." the notice said. Reliance Energyis a part of the Reliance - Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.

The Coal Ministry has offered the blocks with gross reserves of 645 million tonnes to six companies, including Reliance Energy. The group has already been allocated captive coal mining blocks of Moher, Amlori and Chattrasal along with the 4,000 MW Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project. The Sasan project includes over 15 million tonnes per annum of captive coal mining making it the single largest pit head based power generation unit in the country. - Our Bureau
