Outlook Soilmec mulls supplies to construction industry Our Bureau Bangalore, Nov. 15 The construction industry’s preference for using high tech equipment has given an impetus to international companies that started on small scale trading. With the demand in India for drilling rigs expected to touch 200 per year soon from only 60 now, Italy’s Soilmec is strengthening its marketing efforts. Its subsidiary Soilmec (India) is eyeing the Rs 2,40,000 crore construction industry as its growth driver, even as it has been a key supplier of its machines to the infrastructure sectors like railways, power stations and roads. Mr Sanjoy Chakrabarty, Managing Director of Soilmec (India), told newsmen here on Thursday that the company was keen to expand its marketing operations to manufacturing. But he added that there were no immediate plans. He said the company will begin with setting up a designing centre and assembly of some parts at a later date. Construction industryMr Chakrabarty said Soilmec, member of the $1 billion Trevi Group boasting of drilling rigs for a host of applications for oil fields, special foundation drills and services, has already sold 50 machines to both infrastructure and residential building industry. He said the company had orders for delivery of 30 machines till April. Mr Davide Panzavolta, Director, Soilmech Italy, said his company will be interested in introducing the whole range of its sophisticated Drilling Machine Systems, which had undergone a change integrating more safety apparatus like operators cabins, video camera and remote radio control for easier monitoring and quick follow-up actions by the customers of the machines installed at various sites.
