GoAir receives 2nd A320 aircraft

Mumbai, Nov. 15 Wadia Group company’s low-cost flyer Go Airlines Pvt Ltd received its second A320 aircraft of the Rs 4,800 crore ($ 1.2 billion) order it placed with Airbus last year and plans to complete flight expansion by November end.

“Following the induction of the new aircraft, we shall be operating 561 commercial flights per week under the new winter schedule. We plan to have 41 aircrafts by March 2012,” said Mr Jeh Wadia, Managing Director.

The fleet comprises Airbus A320 aircraft with a speed of 0.82 Mach with a single class seating configuration of 180 passengers.

Although GoAir is doubling its overall frequency within its network with the addition of flight operations from 259 – 561 commercial flights per week, the carrier has no plans to add new destinations to its current network of 11 during this fiscal.

The average flown load factors of GoAir during the first half of the financial year was 81 per cent. The airline recorded 108 per cent growth in passenger traffic at the close of the first half of the current fiscal.

“At the close of the second quarter of the current fiscal, GoAir’s passenger traffic volume increased by 123 per cent.

“In the first quarter we recorded 95 per cent growth in passenger traffic,” said Mr Wadia.
