Our Bureau

Mangalore, Nov. 15 There are good job opportunities in the downstream units at Mangalore SEZ project, according to Mr A.G. Pai, Chief Operating Officer of the Mangalore SEZ Ltd.

In an interactive meeting with members of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Thursday, Mr Pai said that the phase-1 of Mangalore SEZ project would have works such as the establishment of aromatic complex and olefin complex.

Expansion of the capacity of the refinery of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd from 12 mtpa to 15 mtpa is also part of the project.

“In such a situation, downstream units at the Mangalore SEZ will provide more jobs,” he said.

Refinery expansion

The scheduled period for the completion of the refinery expansion work is June 2010, and for aromatic complex is December 2010.

Olefin complex is scheduled for completion eight months after that. Preparation of the detailed feasibility report for olefin complex has been completed.

Of the 3,985 acres of land under the process of acquisition, 1,721 acres have been transferred to the project. Another 2,500 acres will be required for the general purpose multi-product SEZ.
