Kochi, Nov. 16 India Exhibitions and Conference Services (IECS) is organising a major exhibition-cum-conference — Hospitech 2007 — in Kochi to address various issues related to Kerala’s health sector.

According to the organisers, for the first time, researchers, doctors, hospital managers, environmental experts and equipment manufacturers would share a platform to evaluate the various developments in healthcare and chart out a new course that would provide better services in a cost-effective manner.

The exhibition-cum-conference will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here from November 23 to 25. More than 100 delegates would attend the conference, while around 55 big and medium players in healthcare, hospital equipment and IT solutions will participate in the exhibition that would show the latest technology in the field.

The event would witness a B2B meet that would benefit healthcare managers, service providers, and suppliers.

Hospital accreditation

One of the major issues to be discussed at the conference would be accreditation of hospitals. The Union government is understood to be planning to bring in a law making accreditation of hospitals mandatory, they told Business Line. Therefore, it acquires significance now, they said.

Besides, knowledge management of infectious diseases, bio-waste management, and safe use of high technology equipment would be covered by the conference.

In Kerala, private sector continues to have a strong presence in the health sector. As part of the national transition, Kerala has witnessed the setting up of speciality and super speciality hospitals, in both the corporate and private sector.

There are 1,500 private hospitals in the State, they said. Of this, 10 are corporate and the rest are traditional hospitals, clinics or nursing homes that supplement the Government’s health delivery system.

The rise in private healthcare centres and hospitals of late also makes Kerala an attractive destination for utilisation of high-end technology hospital/medical equipments, they said.
