HCV/LCV/Tractors Tipper applications may gather pace with mining growth Our Bureau Bangalore, Nov. 17 Tipper applications could gather momentum with the mining sector showing sings of rapid growth. However, the industry should focus on cost-effective solutions in tipper application in the mining industry, whose growth at 6-7 per cent from 4-5 per cent over the last few years has consolidated the sector with a turnover of Rs 60,000 crore and contributing 16 per cent of India’s total exports. With the Government offering a wide range of concessions, 100 per cent FDI participation, and the ready availability of cheap manual resources, India could be a potential destination for tipper application companies, said Mr Eric Leblanc, Managing Director, Volvo India Ltd. Participating in one of technical sessions of Excon 2007 here, Mr Leblanc said that it was very important to focus on the mining and infrastructure sector and the need for efficient transport solutions, to keep pace with the expected growth rate of 9 to 10 per cent annually. India is currently focusing on road development, investments in port development, airport modernisation, development of mining and infrastructure technology, with the major investment expected from the FDI and Public Private Partnership route. Product to applicationMr Somnath Bhattacharjee, Vice President-Trucks, Volvo India, said changing the customer’s mindset from product to application aspect was a major challenge Volvo faced, and it focused on marketing its products through vehicle uptime, driver productivity, transport solution, quality, safety and branding while introducing a drivers training programme to enhance productivity, profitability and safety.
