Management through knowledge of the self

Our Bureau

Vijayawada, Nov. 18

By acquiring a deep knowledge of different aspects of the self and a love for different subjects, one can achieve personal and academic excellence, according to management consultant Mr M.C. Das.

Delivering a talk on ‘Personal and Academic Excellence’ organised by The Hindu Business Line Club in association with the Department of Business Administration of Gudlavalleru College of Engineering near here recently, Mr Das listed out nine mantras for achieving excellence.

He said that acquiring knowledge of the body; understanding our role in society, family, and institution; and our feelings and behaviour were essential to develop personal excellence.

Accepting a person in totality; developing good relations; accepting one’s mistakes; and developing a positive attitude that leads to happiness were the remaining four mantras for achieving personal excellence.

Exhorting the students to put their bodies and minds to the best use, Mr Das explained to them the wonders of the human body.

He said that the human body was one of the largest ‘organisations’ with over 60 lakh crore employees (the number of cells in the body). “Each cell is independent, with a date of birth, a date of death, and a very specific duty,” he said.

Blood cells travel 16.8 crore miles a day through a complex network of blood vessels and capillaries. A perfect drainage system with 12 lakh filters (the kidneys) was in place to cleanse the body from toxic wastes. Each cell was a city with several energy production centres and protein-manufacturing units, Mr Das explained.

The head of the department, Mr B.E.V.V.N. Murthy, said 998 colleges were producing 90,000 students of business administration. Efforts were on to make the business graduates of the college among the best in the State.

He said that students of business administration make presentations on the basis of information in The Hindu Business Line, every Friday and Saturday.

Regional General Manager of The Hindu, Mr K. Chandrasekaran, welcomed the gathering and made a presentation on The Hindu Business Line. Mr D. Prasada Rao, Principal; Mr S.R.K. Reddy, Director; and Mr Vallurupalli Ramaseshadri Rao, Secretary and Correspondent, were also present.
