Medical Institutions & Hospitals States - Andhra Pradesh Cancer institute in expansion mode M. Somasekhar Hyderabad, Nov. 18 The Indo-American Cancer Institute & Research Centre (IACIR) in Hyderabad is expanding facilities and strengthening treatment expertise for different cancers. The hospital is adding 200 beds to make it a 375-bed facility and would be ready in January 2008, said Dr Mohana Vamsy Ch, Director and Chief Surgical Oncologist. The IACIR is financially self-sufficient and, being a non-profit organisation, has been receiving donations and funds from philanthropists. It recently set up a bone marrow transplant unit. In its efforts to promote the treatment and management of cancer, IACIR organised an international conference on clinical oncology during November 16-18, 2007, with over 500 delegates from India and abroad. The meet highlighted the need to formulate guidelines and recommendations for the management of malignancies in the Indian context. Leading cancer specialists from the US such as Dr Nori Dattatreyudu, Dr Ravi Kumar and Dr Mohiuddin had presented the latest developments in the field. Dr Vamsy said the centre was using laser surgery techniques with promising results for head, neck and lung cancers. More Stories on : Medical Institutions & Hospitals | Andhra Pradesh
