Sugar hits upper circuit on short covering

Mumbai, Nov. 19 Sugar futures on NCDEX hit the upper circuit at Rs 1,435 per quintal on short covering. “Lower inventory at warehouses has prompted short covering on the last day of tender period,” said an analyst.

Chilli futures rose 3.92 per cent to Rs 4,400 per quintal on the back of profit booking. Turmeric gained 2.43 per cent to Rs 2,023 per quintal on speculative buying.

Guar seed futures dwindled 0.74 per cent to Rs 1,609 per quintal due to arrival pressure. Jeera came down 0.72 per cent to Rs 10,387 per quintal due to lack of demand and weak Unjaha spot market.

Mentha oil up

On MCX, mentha oil was up 0.81 per cent to Rs 450 per 10 kg, while kapaskhali lost marginally. MCX registered a turnover of Rs 3,137 crore up to 5 pm, while in NCDEX it was Rs 1,561 crore.

MCX Comdex – the composite index of metals, energy and agri sub-indices – gained 0.37 per cent to 2369.88 points, MCX Metal Index lost 0.06 per cent to 2553.79 points while MCX Energy Index advanced by 0.67 per cent to 2800.81 points. MCX Agri- Index rose by 0.67 per cent at 1614.19 points. NCDEX FUTEXAGRI is up 0.41 per cent at 1454.27 and NCDEXAGRI closed lower 0.13 per cent at 1456.34.
