Mangalore, Nov. 19 The Mangalore region of Syndicate Bank, comprising Dakshina Kannada and Chikmagalur districts, registered business of Rs 2,694 crore at the end of September 30, according to Mr K.U. Shanbhag, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, Mangalore region.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said the business constituted Rs 1,471 crore of deposits and Rs 1,223 crore of advances.

‘Good reach’

The region, which has 82 branches and one extension counter, has a good mixture of urban, semi-urban and rural branches to ensure good reach to customers, he said. Core banking solution has been introduced in 45 branches in the region.

The region has 16 ATMs and there are plans to open five more by the end of the financial year.

Pigmy product

Asked about the response to ‘Pigmy Plus 2007’ product of the bank, Mr Shanbhag said around 2,500 beneficiaries in the region have opted for the product.

The daily deposit product builds up a habit of thrift among small business, retail traders and individuals.

Pigmy agents use hand-held device, which gives on-the-spot receipt for the amount of deposit and enquiries regarding the account balances of customers, Mr Shanbhag said.

Nearly 4,000 students in Mangalore region have opted for the ‘Synd Vidyarthi’ scheme of the bank. The scheme provides credit up to Rs 10,000 to the students pursuing professional education to meet their immediate credit requirements, he said.

Survey has been completed in the district for financial inclusion, and it is ready for 100 per cent financial inclusion, he said. Syndicate Bank is the lead bank in Dakshina Kannada district.
