‘RIL plans to cut LPG output’

New Delhi, Nov. 20

The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr Dinsha Patel, today informed the Rajya Sabha that following the grant of export-oriented unit status to its Jamnagar refinery, Reliance Industries Ltd plans to reduce liquefied petroleum gas production from the refinery. The company plans to cut production by 40 per cent to around 1.6 million tonne per annum from mid-2008, the Minister said. The deficit between demand and indigenous production of LPG is met through re gular imports being done by the public sector oil marketing companies. In 2006-07, the LPG demand was about 10.8 million tonnes as against production of LPG by all refineries of about 9.6 million tonnes. RIL was the largest LPG producer with 2.67 million tonnes. “Even though RIL has been granted EOU status, any export of LPG has to be with the approval of the Government,” the Minister said. —
