Canara Bus Operators’ Association, Mangalore, in association with the Bangalore-based i-Factor Technologies Pvt Ltd, will launch vehicle monitoring system ‘BusVoice’ in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from Wednesday.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr K. Rajavarma Ballal, President of the Canara Bus Operators’ Association, said that ‘BusVoice’ will be implemented in 100 express buses plying between Udupi and Mangalore on a pilot basis.

This will help around 40,000 passengers travelling daily in these buses.

Explaining the features of ‘BusVoice’, Mr Rajesh Kunder, Chief Executive Officer of i-Factor Technologies Pvt Ltd, said that the system is based on satellite navigation system and supports vehicle tracking data, such as over speeding, arrival and departure timings at scheduled and unscheduled stops for the use of government authorities, fleet owners and emergency service providers.

Uses

The system also announces scheduled stops when the bus reaches that point. This will help passengers to know about the locations.

In case of accidents, this system helps locate the exact location and provide medical service quickly.

Mr Ballal said that the objective of implementing this system is to improve the bus services in terms of safety, affordability, quality, punctuality, connectivity and transparency. The pilot project has been implemented at a cost of Rs 40 lakh on 100 buses. Based on the response, it will be implemented in other buses in phased manner.

Mr Kunder said that vehicle tracking link is provided at regional transport offices and traffic police offices in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Daily reports on each vehicle will give information of arrival and departure time, speed and other data.

He told Business Line that ‘BusVoice’ will air interesting programmes for the listening pleasure of the passengers. There will be space for commercial advertisements and this will be income source to sustain the system, he added.
