Asian Apparel meet in Mumbai tomorrow

Mumbai, Nov. 20 The second Asian Apparel Conference organised by the Asian Apparel Federation will be held in the city this week, with heads of 10 Asian Apparel Manufacturing member countries participating to discuss the opportunities for Asia beyond a global apparel source.

Hosted by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India, it will focus on reviewing the global market situation, said Mr Rahul Mehta, President of the association.

With over one billion consumers and rapidly developing modern retail networks offering a market for clothing manufacturers; high management, international servicing, IT and design skill allow India to partner as a vendor, investor, brand and retail, he added.

$20 bn exports by ’10

With exports in the apparel sector poised to reach $25 billion by 2010 from $8.5 billion and the domestic market predicted to grow by 20 per cent per annum for the next decade, the conference will delve on common growth strategies for mutual benefits of Asian countries, said a statement.

The Asian Apparel Federation is the apex organisation of the Asian apparel industry.
