Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 20 Homestays in Kerala are set to get a corporate touch with the Kerala-based Mir group launching ‘Mir Experiences’ homestays.

Announcing the entry into the homestay segment, Mr K. Arun Kumar, Managing Director, Mir group, said that the group would create a homestay network under the ‘Mir Experiences’ brand.

This venture is part of the group’s efforts to popularise the bed and breakfast concept in Kerala, he explained. The venture will enable tourists to have an authentic experience of life in Kerala while offering them high quality facilities and services, he added.

Fifty independent homestays across Kerala have already become part of the network and another 50 are expected to join by the middle of next year, he said. The Mir group will provide training to the homestay operators and will market the properties, which will also be listed on the Web site www.mirhomestays.com, he added.

Mir Tours, the group’s travel division, will implement this project and will ensure that each homestay meets specified infrastructure and service standards, he pointed out. Each property will be regularly evaluated to ensure that it maintains the standards set by the Mir group, he added.

Hotel chain

The group, which has interests in construction, tourism, project management, herbal medicine and trading, is also looking at starting a budget hotel chain under the ‘Mirror’ brand in cities across South India, Mr Arun Kumar said.

The company is initially looking at ‘Mirror’ hotels in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Coimbatore and Mangalore. Also on the cards is a foray into service apartments in various locations in South India, he added.

Mir Realtors, the group’s construction company is currently building residential townships in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, and is looking at a similar project in Kottayam. The group’s project management division is also bidding for several project consultancies across the country.
