Chennai, Nov. 20 Now a faulty LCD (liquid crystal display) or plasma panel need not go to Taiwan, China or Korea for repair, or replaced with a new one. A new service and repair centre (in the organised sector) for LCD/plasma panels has come up in Chennai.

Cadensworth (India) Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Chennai-based Redington (India) Ltd, has set up the centre at a cost of around Rs 4.5 crore, which was raised from the company’s recent public issue.

“There is only one another centre in India, but it cannot repair large panels of around 60 inches. Our centre can repair panels from 7 inches to 60 inches,” Mr M. Raghunandan, Director, Redington, told Business Line.

The new centre can handle up to 2,000 panels a month. With a monthly volume of around 700, the payback will be around four years.

Cadensworth is speaking to vendors like Lenova, Hewlett Packard, Samsung, HCL, Acer and Viewsonic for offering the repair service to their customers.

The LCD/plasma television market in India is estimated to be around 1.40 lakh units. The service centre will be a centralised facility, and the LCD/plasma panels from across the country will be handled here, Mr Raghunandan said.

Cadensworth offers warranty and post-warranty services for information technology products and components and has developed an expertise on repairs at the component level. Services offered include end-to-end management of the defective parts supply chain covering both the forward and reverse logistics.

During the financial year ended March 31, 2007, Cadensworth validated and replaced over 1.40 lakh motherboards and processors to customers across India and repaired over 65,000 motherboards.
