Kochi, Nov. 21 After the Licence Raj of post-independent India, challenges before the Indian industry was in managing technology during the eighties, containing costs in the nineties, quality at the turn of the century, and finally managing Human Resources these days, Mr M.S.A. Kumar, Vice-Chairman of CII-Kerala, said.

In his presidential address at the national seminar organised by IBS Kochi on Demand Driven Workforce Management, he said employment-employability matching with labour profile is one of the keys to human resource management.

Continuous skill enhancement would help the company upgrade human resources to generate greater wealth.

Speaking on Aligning HR Strategies with Business Strategies, Mr George Selvam, Chairman of 5E Serpraise, said that people management and personnel management began to evolve during the sixties.

By the eighties, competition started to play a key role in markets and companies started to focus on industry level demands with the aim of maximising profits. This gave way to the concept of knowledge management in the nineties and organisations began to realise that human knowledge is the backbone of organisational success. Prof. Jose Mathew Mattom of IBS said that change is the only thing which is stable in this world. The profile of workers is changing from blue to white to gold. These changes give more challenges to the HR professionals.
